Bandito Anderson/Truett

July 5, 2015 – October 30, 2026

Bandito Anderson/Truett, a lifelong resident of the City of Cayce House of Cats (CHOC), was helped on to his next journey on October 30, 2026, after enduring the pain and discomfort of renal failure. He was 11 years old.

Bandito’s story began at the SC State Museum, even before his birth…

The July 4, 2015, weekend marked a milestone at CHOC. After a lengthy effort to trap a pregnant cat (Mama Kitty III) at the State Museum feral colony, she was finally caught on Saturday evening, July 4. Her spay was scheduled for the following Monday, but she had other plans. She gave birth on the evening of July 5. On July 6, she introduced three boys and a girl, nicknamed “Tres Amigos and Little Señorita.” Mama and two kittens found a home at a farm estate in Santee. The twin boys stayed at CHOC and were named Frito and Bandito.

Bandito loved being “out and about” with his housemates and caretakers, Stoney and Valerie. Friendly and curious, he took an interest in everything around him. He did, however, have a habit of hiding under blankets whenever something unusual happened or flea medication was being handed out. His full tabby mask was the only marking that distinguished him from his brother, Frito; otherwise, the two looked alike.

Bandito battled dental problems for several years, requiring at least two surgeries. The procedures brought relief, but the irritation from stomatitis eventually returned. Pain medication and steroids also eased his discomfort. Later, tests revealed excessive protein in his urine, followed by blood - signs of renal failure. Through it all, he kept his positive spirit, jumping onto countertops and chasing the laser pointer, his “kitty remote.” His brother, Frito, and housemates Blackie, Pratt, and Little O kept a watchful eye on him during his final days.

Bandito, we love you and are proud that you will always belong to the CHOC household. You spent your whole life here, and we think you did just fine. We will miss your distinctive little mask and your ever-positive attitude. Your memory will stay with us, reminding us of the precious lives that share our calm - but sometimes chaotic - CHOC home.

Sleep sweetly, big boy. Go get that laser mouse…

…With all our love, Stoney and Valerie
