Caruso Anderson-Truett

d. September 16, 2023

A big, furry, four-legged hole was shot in our hearts this day. Caruso, the patriarch of the City of Cayce House of Cats, passed from complications of what is believed to be abdominal cancer. He was approximately 15 years old.

In the late Spring of 2007, Stoney was walking across the ramp at Columbia Metropolitan airport. He heard an odd noise coming from inside a hangar. The noise sounded suspiciously like a cat meowing. He looked inside the hangar and found a long-haired orange tabby sitting in the co-pilot seat of a Citation jet – just meowing his head off – reminding him of the opera singer, Caruso. No one at the airport had any idea where he had come from, so Stoney brought him home to rule the Cayce House of Cats for the next 15 years.

Caruso was one of our most gregarious cats. He would usually be around when strangers came to visit so they could revel in his handsomeness and long fur. He also loved to be vacuumed and never found a plate of food he wouldn’t eat – even in his last days.

One of his favorite activities was parking himself on top of Stoney’s head like a hat while he was sleeping. If he woke up before we did, he would start mmmuuurrriiinnnggg and bump one of us with his head. If that didn’t wake someone up, then he would gently set a paw on one of our noses. If that didn’t work, he would set a paw on one of our noses with one claw out. That usually did the trick.

A special thank you goes out to his housemates – Little O and BooBoo Bear who stayed with him during his last hours and to Carmine who gave him his last “head bonk” just the night before.

Caruso – Papa Stoney and Mama Valerie love you so very much and will miss all the fur flying around the house as you walk by.

Enjoy your journey across the Bridge. We will see you soon, big guy…
