Doolittle Anderson/Truett
August, 2011 – June 30, 2025
Doolittle Anderson-Truett, a member of “The Gang of Six” (a tiny division of the City of Cayce House of Cats), was lovingly euthanized on June 30, 2025 after battling chronic Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). He was 14 years old.
Doolittle was pre-deceased by his sisters Amelia and Jacque and his brother Lindbergh. He leaves behind the two remaining “Gangsters” – brother Blackie and sister Arabella - as well as the remaining members of the CHOC household and their caretakers Stoney and Valerie.
Doolittle’s story started before he was born. In the Summer of 2011, we were feeding a pregnant tabby female on our back porch. She gave birth to 6 kittens at a neighbor’s home down the street. A few weeks later, she decided to move the litter to our back porch. During her move, we found two of the kittens under a tile saw on the back porch. One of those kittens was Doolittle. He is named after Jimmy Doolittle – the US Air Force General who led an air attack on Tokyo in 1942 (the “Doolittle Raid”) after the Pearl Harbor invasion.
Doolittle and his siblings were thick as thieves - but he especially loved sleeping in a box on top of the kitchen island with Arabella, Blackie, Frank, Pratt, and whoever else could fit!
Doolittle was always the most curious cat. He took an interest whenever something was going on and was constantly on the counter-top to make certain he wasn’t missing anything. He also had the ability to be the first one up at mealtimes. There was no food he didn’t like, and he would knock down anyone who got in his way. As the old saying goes “he had to have the heart of the watermelon”. In a way, it was his most endearing characteristic. That, and little surprises he would leave throughout the house because of his IBD – which we would just clean up and move on…
Doolittle’s real claim to fame was when, only a few months ago, he was selected by Chewy (the online pet supply store) to be celebrated as a featured cat in their celebration of National Pet Month. He received a painted portrait of his likeness which we proudly display.
A special thank you goes out to Doolittle’s medical team at Sunset Animal Clinic and to veterinarian Mark Foy in particular. Special thanks are also offered to Doolittle’s housemates, Greyhound and MacGyver, who kept him comforted during his last few days.
Doolittle - Papa Stoney and Mama Valerie love you so very much and will miss your curious face and you gobbling all those bowls of food FIRST!
Enjoy your journey across the Bridge. We will see you soon, sweet boy…
