George Anderson/Truett
Spring, 2022 - January 4, 2026
George Anderson/Truett, formerly of the SC State Museum Feral Colony, passed away peacefully from what is believed to be a congenital kidney disorder. He was just three and a half years old.
George was preceded in death by his sister, Velma Kelly, who was adopted by friends of the family. He is survived by his mother, Tortiellini (of the feral colony); his sister, Roxie Hart (also adopted by friends of the family); and his sister, Gracie, of the home.
Born to a feral mother at the South Carolina State Museum Feral Colony in the spring of 2022, George and his siblings were trapped at the Colony on June 28, 2022. Two of his sisters found new homes through adoption. George and his sister Gracie became cherished members of the City of Cayce House of Cats (CHOC).
George (named after George Burns) and Gracie (named after Gracie Allen) were very close in their early years and remained shy around humans, spending much of their time beneath the bed. Though they eventually began to explore other parts of the home, their “safe space” remained the bedroom, where they always stayed near each other.
In the first two years, it was difficult to tell George apart from Gracie unless they were seen together. Over time, while Gracie continued to prefer the bedroom, George became more outgoing and started to explore the main areas of the house.
About six months before his passing, George began to lose weight. Two months later, he developed bad breath. Veterinarians recommended a dental procedure, but bloodwork revealed a more serious issue: kidney failure. He was presenting symptoms of disease that should those of an older cat 0 yet he was only 3 years old. Treatments were initiated to increase his red blood cell count and daily subcutaneous fluid injections were administered. He underwent his dental procedure on New Year’s Eve, 2025, but unfortunately, his condition did not improve. George passed on January 4, 2026.
George - we love you so much and are grateful for the short time we had you with us. Your brief life will always remain a poignant memory, reminding us of the precious lives - both young and old - who reside in the calm (but sometimes chaotic) household that is CHOC.
Sweet dreams, big boy…
…With love from Stoney and Valerie
