Teddy Bear was an impulsive purchase of our mother-in-law after she'd let us borrow her sweet boy, Marley. After getting him from a breeder who had AKC registered and bred puppies, Teddy Bear was a product of an accidental mating of his grandfather with his mother, making his grandfather his own father.
He was whelped on June 2nd, 2009. My husband and I married on June 27th, 2009. He was brought home in the middle of August and was the light of our lives ever since. During just the first four months of his life, he managed to break his front leg, but that was not the only time he soldered on through suffering with a strong little body. He was our first baby, and we actually took him nearly everywhere. He kept us company during long summer nights and early days during our shared short job of delivering newspapers for The State.
Our dear Teddy Bear was present when our daughter Lisa was born on November 5th, 2013. He slowly became a close friend and snuggler of hers over the years of his life. He was friends with my mother-in-law’s many dogs over the years, seeing them sadly come and go as they got ever older. Back around 2018, during a potty run in our yard, he managed to slice up his side (a singular long slice) right behind his front leg! But that wasn’t the only time he’d survived yet again!
In 2019, a large dark dog had broken through our fence, and after attacking my mother-in-law’s dog (he had survived as well, but has since left us for other reasons), the dog had ripped at Teddy Bear’s throat skin, but yet he still lived. Skin calluses, thinning fur, blinded eyes, and missing teeth—he had survived it all. Until late in 2025, when MMVD, soon developing into congestive heart failure, was what released our dear baby to cross the rainbow bridge on October 17th at 3:45 am.
Your memory shall always be a blessing, our dearest baby old man, our Teddy Bear Ure of 16 years. We will always love you to the ends of the earth; please be waiting for us when we are ready.
